The Bachelor Mother
Baby’s daddy? Better yet Baby’s Mommy?
“The Bachelor Mother” is a romantic mystery that goes through numerous obstacles that lead Ginger Rogers (Polly Parish) in a life changing experience. She becomes very close with David Niven (David Merlin) after a very humerus mistake that Polly is a mother of an unknown child. It takes place back in the 1930’s in a small little downtown area.
The movie opens with the very poor Polly Parish having just been cut from her job at the toy store after the holiday season. On her walk home one day she discovers a baby left on the doorstep of an orphanage. As she goes to make sure the baby does not roll down the stairs, the orphanage opens the door and assumes the baby is hers. After a long chain of messengers, the owner of the toy store offers Polly her job back. The only catch is everybody thinks the baby is hers and she can only have her job back if she takes the baby. The toy store manager checks in on her and the baby numerous times and after a while he starts going there not just to check in. Everyone is wondering who the baby’s daddy is and when multiple men confess to being the dad, Polly’s only concern is making sure the baby she did not want in the first place, now does not get taken away from her. Does Polly fall in love in the mix? Well you are just going to have to watch the movie to find out.
Ginger Rogers performance in this movie is outstanding. She is a beautiful young actress with a lot of talent and she uses all of it in this film. Although her role may be very different from her previous movie “The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle” she pulled it together and did a magnificent job. She worked with Fred Astaire her last ten movies and people wondered whether she could shine without him. Well she proved it to all her fans that Ginger Rogers can shine on her own. She plays her part as the poor “mother” well and makes it seem as if she really was the mother of the baby left on the stairs. With her looks, humor, and strong personality, anybody would believe just about anything she says.
The picture in the Bachelor Mother is unlike any movie I have ever seen before, simply because I have never seen another movie in black and white. The black and white look gave it a very traditional effect. It made me think of in the beginning of the Wizard of Oz, when the picture was not in color. It suits the movie very well because it was made in 1939 and back in the day they did not have color on their televisions. I actually enjoyed seeing the movie in black and white because you pay more attention to the film then the surroundings and picture of the movie.
The costume design is hilarious to me because it is from back in the day. When you see all the ladies coming in with ankle length skirts, button down collared shirts, hair all big and curled you know you are not in present day. The men all wear slacks, their hair is very gelled and mustaches seem to be in back then. Their costumes match the time and setting of the movie , which is in the 1930’s. My favorite part in the movie is when David Merlin takes Polly to the New Years Eve Party and dresses her up because she has nothing to wear. She comes out in a beautiful long gown and looks absolutely stunning. The gown is not like long gowns from now a days. It is very elegant and does not fit to her body well.
I am not going to lie when I first started watching the film I thought I was going to be bored out of my mind, but as the film went on I found it quite enjoyable. Since the film is in black and white and was made in 1939 the quality of the film was not very good. The screen would buzz in and out a couple of times, and at one point the movie even shut off for a minute. Nothing was too drastic though and we did get to finish the movie all in one sitting. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the “oldies” or anyone over the age of 55. (Mainly because everyone in the theatre was over the age of 55) The film attracts to older people and to those who enjoy oldies because they have seen black and white movies when they were younger so they do not mind them. Once you see a movie in color, you do not usually ever want to go back.
If the movie ends with somewhat of a surprise do not be shocked. With a missing mom, a missing dad, a pretend mom, 3 pretend dads, a psycho powerful “grandpa”, Charles Coburn (J.B. Merlin), and a lot of action in between there are bound to be some twists. Here is a movie that deserves two thumbs up.

reflection!
As our time here in this English class is coming to end, I will for sure say that this class was not nearly as bad as i thought it would be. We did not write as many papers as i thought and we did way more fun activities than i would have thought. I seemed to always have procrastinated in this class so it did lead to a lot of stress, but i know that is just my fault. My favorite project we did in this class was for sure the last project. It let you cut loose and write kind of in your own style. It did have some genre constraints, but since it was personal you got a feel of who you were. This college english course was a lot harder and different than any other english class i have ever taken! I have always gotten A's on my paper and when i got to college the same work i woukd turn in to my teachers in high school, did not quite cut it in college. There was a lot more to writing than i never knew about and you have to pay attention to styles or writing way more. As much as i will miss this class i am so very excited for this semester to be over. I cannot wait to be done with all finals and go home to see my friends and family. I still have some last touch ups to do with my final project for this class, but overall i am happy with the outcome of this class. I think we had a very entertaining and fun class and i enjoyed spending my teusdays and thursdays with all of you guys! I hope to see you guys around campus or in my future classes! Best of luck to you all!

audience
For my Project 4, I decided to write to my parents and then to my boyfriend. I could not decide wether I wanted to write to my sister or my boyfriend because they both have big impacts on my life and my decisions, but i decided that writing to my boyfriend would be easier, and make more sense. I decided to write to my parents because they mean the world to me. They have always been there for me and have helped me make a lot of major decisions in my life time. I know they would definitely want to hear about my major and why it is the right choice for me. they were concerned at first that I would not get into the major I wanted and they were also iffy about me picking buisness in the first place because it is so broad. I know i will be able to convince them why it is so important to me and why i enjoy it so much. I decided to write ot my boyriend because we have been together for a very long time and he has supported me through a lot fo different ups and downs in my life. Before we went to college we talked about our futures and where we wanted to be and he was veyr supportive of me taking the Business career path. He knew it could potentially lead to some very successful jobs and he was happy for me. It is hard for us to be apart since he goes to Ohio State, but he knew i could not just follow him there because he is playing soccer. Convincing him that ISU in general is right for me would be hard but not pursuing the business major. Writing both of these letters will take a lot of thought process because i need to narrow done my persuasions to both of them because they are too completely different audiences.

STRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! :(
I have never ever been so stressed out in my entire life. I am warning you now that you do not want to read this if you do not want to head how horrible my life is or hear me complain. This past week and the next 2 upcoming weeks have been the most stressful days of my entire life and my brain is honestly about to explode. I am literally so busy from the second i wake up until the second i go to bed which ends up being around 3 in the morning every day. I literally have never ending homework and tests every other day lately and i have sorirty meetings for around 2 hours every night. Now dont get me wrong, I know it was my decision to join a soroirty but who knew how much work you actually have to do to become a member. To top it off, this last paper i think took a knife and stabbed me in the stomach about three times. My computer has been acting up lately so it takes hours to load, print or do anything. I printed off too many things that added a good hour to my project and made me skip a class because i needed to finish printing out sheets that i did not even need to print out. God is trying to murder me. Now i have to study for a criminal justice test that is on thursday, but dont worry besides that I also have to sleep at my soroirty house wednesday thursday and friday with 30 other girls so god forbid i am not gonig to get any work or studying done because we have pledge class talks at midnight every night and we cannot start them any earlier apparently than midnight. I seriously just need to take a week long nap and get away from school. Who ever knew college would actually be 300000 times harder and mroe work than highschool. SORRY FOR MY RAMPAGE BUT I AM FEELING A LITTLE BETTER NOW! i am just praying for 10 more days until Thanksgiving break. HELP.

something learned in class
I am so overwhelmed with classes nad i feel like i have so much going on. Taking 16 credit hours was a lot to handle but it did give me alot to choose from on this topic. My favorite class right now is criminal justice, but since i already wrote about jury nullification i will write about something i learned in psyhcology. Psychology is a class filled with new information and it all has to do about your body and mind. We are learning a lot about female and male characteristics and how you can tell them apart. It is actually very interesting to learn what certain skills female would be good at and what certain skills males would be good at. A lot of it is self explanatory because it is based off "stereotypical" ideas. For an example, males would oviously be better at throwing a dart, aka hand/eye coordination, and females would obviously be better at fine finger skills, aka sewing or tieing tiny knots. A lot of it is self exlpanatory, but some of the new stuff i learned was primary and secondary female sex charactertics. Primary have anything to dow ith female organs and and seconadary have to dow ith getting your first period. Males secondary would be getting facial hair or getting a lower voice. Psychology is very interesting and i ahve learned a lot of things in it.

He stuffed a man with newspaper and made him very scary looking! he sits on our front porch and then he jumps out at kids when they come back because my dad is controlling him through the window! major!
When i first came to ISU i was undecided for my major all summer. I had a lot of interests but i was not sure what i wanted to do! my mom immediatly forced me to join the business school because she wanted me to atleast have a backup. Even though i am very interested in business i was not sure thats what i wanted to major in. It was basically a life decision and i felt forced into choosing something i was not sure about. I am very interested in nutrition and nursing so i have decided to apply to the nutrition program in the spring. It is a very competitive program am i need to succeed very well this semester to even be considered for an apllicant. I have been working my butt off this whole semester so i hope my hard work pays off. If i do not get into the nutrition program then i will stick with the business major. I hope to get into the marketing aspect of business because i enjoy sellnig things and advertising things also. I think i would succeed in the the business world, but i also feel like everybody in the world who does not know what they want to do with their lives go into business because it is such a broad topic. There are so many branches in the business world and all jobs have to do with some sort of business. If i do get into the nutrition program i am considering also minoring in business. Having both would look great on my reseme later in life and will get me well prepared for the real world! wish me luck in the spring when i apply for the nutrition program because i will defintly need it!!
